Delcevo Home Tour

For the last two weeks, we have been working on settling into our new lives as PCVs in Delcevo. We're settled into our new home, but we haven't quite settled into a routine that feels comfortable yet. We, technically, live with a host family. Although, we have much more privacy here than we did in Veles. We live on the second floor of the home of our host family - a very sweet, retired couple. Though there are stairs from the inside to our space, we also have an entrance from the outside, so it feels like we have a private apartment.

Just inside the door, there is a cabinet for our shoes, a tray for fruits and vegetables, the stairs down into the main house, and the bathroom. It is a pretty standard bathroom, except we have a washing machine, which is a first for us.

We have another door that separates our living area from the entrance and stairs. In this area, we have a space for hanging coats, a tiny closet, and camping gear storage.

We have a spacious dining room with a large table. From the dining room, there is a door to the terrace. Right now, we only go on the terrace to hang our clothes to dry on the line. When it warms up, I can see us spending more time here. It overlooks the garden in the front of the house and has a nice view of the neighborhood and the mountains behind it.

After a little consideration, we scooted that giant dining table to the side of the room to make space for more productive activities.

The living room/kitchen are where we spend the majority of our time. We have had a bit more free time lately so we have enjoyed reading, knitting, listening to music, and playing Scrabble in here.

We store all of our clothes in the cabinet in the living room.

It has been so nice to have a kitchen again. I didn't realize how making my own food choices about what to eat, when to eat, and how much to eat were important to me. I have had so much fun shopping at the weekly market and cooking meals for us again.

We have the loveliest bedroom. It is bright and comfortable. In this room, we only have a bed with two bedside tables and lamps. The sparsity of the room makes it a great space to fall asleep reading and wake with the sunlight.

The mattress lifts for storage of luggage, sleeping bags, and extra blankets.
We are just getting a taste for what our life will be like here for the next two years. We're have only started at our jobs, and with getting to know our community. So far, so good.
